DANCE CHALLENGE #1
COUNTRY LINE DANCE CHALLENGE
Information for Students:
- In this activity, you will learn how to choreograph a basic country line dance
- You will practice your routine until you have it memorized
- You will be active and hopefully have fun while doing it
Materials Required:
- Paper and pencil to write down your choreography
- Access to country music
- A mirror is recommended but not necessary
- You may wish to add a plaid shirt, jeans, cowboy hat and boots (not required)
Instructions:
1. First pick a song you would like to choreograph your routine to
Some song examples include:
- “Any Man of Mine” – Shania Twain
- “Achy Breaky Heart” – Billy Ray Cyrus
- “Copperhead Road” – Steve Earle
- “Wagon Wheel” – Darius Rucker
- “Ain’t Going Down” – Garth Brooks
- “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” – Shania Twain
- “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy” – Kenny Chesney
- “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” – Brooks & Dunn
- “Fake ID” – Big and Rich
- “Cotton Eye Joe” – Rednex
2. Your basic routine will consist of 2 x 8 counts
3. You will start by choreographing 4 steps (4 counts) going to the right
4. You will then do 4 steps (4 counts) going to the left
5. Add 4 steps (4 counts) going back
6. And finish with 4 steps (4 counts) going forward, ending with a CCW quarter turn
7. Your last step (count) must include a CCW quarter turn so that you end up facing a new wall
8. This makes up your 2 x 8 count routine (16 moves)
9. You can do basic steps, or challenge yourself to be more creative
10. Examples of creativity include: Cross Step (behind or in front), Stomp, Jump, Clap, Arm Wave, Slide, Full Turn, Shuffle, etc
11. Repeat your 2 x 8 count routine facing all 4 walls until you return to the main wall
12. You can add more if you would like or leave it as is. You can also teach members of your family for an added challenge.
Example:
STEPPING TO THE RIGHT (Grapevine)
1.Start with your feet together, then step out with your RIGHT foot
2.Cross your LEFT foot behind your RIGHT foot
3.Step your RIGHT foot to the side
4.Stomp together with your LEFT foot
STEPPING TO THE LEFT
1.Step LEFT foot to the side
2.Step RIGHT foot in front doing full forward turn CCW
3.Step out with the LEFT foot
4.Stomp together with the RIGHT foot
STEPPING BACK
1.Step back with the RIGHT foot
2.Step back with the LEFT foot
3.Step back with the RIGHT foot
4.Stomp together with the LEFT foot
STEPPING FORWARD
1.Step forward with the LEFT foot
2.Step forward with the RIGHT foot
3.Step forward with the LEFT foot
4.RIGHT knee hitch (up) turning CCW towards new wall
