DANCE CHALLENGE #4
PROP CHALLENGE
Information for Students:
- In this activity, you will choreograph a routine using a prop of your choice
- You will practice your routine until you have it memorized
- You can film your routine to show others, or teach members of your family at home
Materials Required:
- Paper and pencil to write down your choreography
- Access to music
- A mirror is recommended but not necessary
- Props: chair, hat, umbrella, broom, ball, tap shoes, baton, hula hoop, scarf, balloons, masks, ribbons etc
Instructions:
1. First decide which prop you will use from the list above
2. Then pick a song you would like to choreograph your routine to
Some song examples include:
- Prop: Umbrella - Song: “Umbrella” – Rhianna
- Prop: Tap Shoes - Song: “Singing in the Rain” – Gene Kelly
- Prop: Basketball - Song: “Space Jam” – Quad City DJ's
- Prop: Hula Hoop - Song: “Hula Hoop” – Omi
- Prop: Chair - “All That Jazz” – Liza Minnelli
- Prop: Baton - "Shake it off" – Taylor Swift
- Prop: Stick - “The Imperial March” – John Williams
- Prop: Hat - “You Can Leave Your Hat On” – Phil Collins
- Prop: Scarf - “Hips Don't Lie” – Shakira
- Prop: Balloons - "99 Red Balloons" – Shakira
4. Your routine must include a beginning pose and ending
5. You should use your prop throughout your routine
6. You should include dance steps as well
7. You should have transitions and movement
8. You can teach your family members and/or your friends via FaceTime, zoom, etc
9: Be creative
10: Have fun
